Geothermal drilling is the work of boring wells so heat from the ground can be used for electricity or for heating and cooling buildings. This page is a short, general introduction. The name Geothermal Drillers is a clear home for that trade and the questions around it.

What geothermal drilling is

Drillers reach underground heat in two common ways: deeper wells that produce steam or hot water for power plants, and shallower loops used with heat pumps in buildings. Both need a hole in the ground, casing, and care around rock and water. This page does not describe a particular company or method.

Why the work matters

The ground holds heat that does not depend on the day’s weather. Using it can cut fuel use for electricity or for space heating. Getting to that heat is a drilling job first. Utilities, building owners, and researchers all rely on wells — at very different depths and costs.

Who uses it, in general

Power projects use production and injection wells. Homes, schools, and other buildings use boreholes for ground-source heat pumps. Scientists drill to study heat in the crust. If you want a name that points at the trade itself, this one is for sale.
